Elks Weekend

Spokane

Sept 1,2,3

We have discovered Elks Lodge RV spaces! Grandpa Bernie was an active Elk in North Tonawanda as a younger man, so we decided to give it a try. These are the two legged version, not wildlife.

We arrived in Spokane, Washington, Thursday afternoon and settled in at the Elks Lodge RV lot. Right away we were invited to the Thursday Pot Luck! So we grabbed a steak from the freezer, made up some macaroni salad, and we joined the group. This Lodge does a lot of group RV travel together! So we got a lot of good suggestions on where to go, what to do, which routes to take.

It was a good place to stay for a weekend. Grandpa got to do some cleanup on the RV, and Grandma got to go get a haircut, manicure and pedicure one day, do laundry the next. In between, we checked out the city and learned a valuable lesson. While disconnecting the Saturn, we’d left the door to the RV open, and a curious little bird flew inside. When we tried to re-enter, the bird panicked, fluttering around inside trying to find it’s way out. At first, we suspected a bat, even scarier, but eventually the little bird flew out as he’s flown in. So now we’re sure to close the screen door!

Spokane’s Riverfront Park is an exceptional city park, and this weekend they were celebrating Pig Out in the Park.

The park itself features gardens, bridges, a bell tower, an amusement park and carousel, and intriguing sculptures.

The Pig Out provided not only a wide range of foods, but characters as well!

Nearby is the historic 5-star Davenport Hotel. We enjoyed touring the Lobby, Mezzanine, Ballrooms and Lounge.

And again, Grandma got to meet some online friends for dinner! It was so nice to meet these folks and share food and laughs.

Montana Elks

Sunday, Sept 4

We travelled to Kalispell, MT to another Elks Lodge. This location has an athletic center we can use….showers, exercise room, handball courts, and best of all, a jacuzzi spa!

Getting here meant passing thru Cour d’Alene and it’s beautiful lake in Idaho, and along the St. Regis River.

Here we paused for lunch

before crossing into Montana, passing through the quaint town of Paradise.

Then we travelled around Flathead Lake.

Tomorrow we go to Glacier National Park, and the weather is supposed to be the best for mountain climbing!
